which to learn?

alright i know this deals wit scripts but its not a certain script so ill put it here

Alright so im pretty creative and whatnot with designs and ideas for websites and whatnot but im starting to realize how great "languages" are in making my site perform. So anyways i would like to know what u guys think i should do, should i keep learning Javascript, or dump it and go straight to PHP. I like JS but its outdated and PHP is the new thing but PHP is used for bigger stuff. now esp since i want to get into bigger things such as shopping carts and passwords for users and whatnot, i know PHP is prob harder esp if u just jump right in but i know some basic javascript and ive tried to learn PHP before and i think i can pick it up fairly easy i have with other things like HTML, and Photoshop and whatnot i just need to see that i "need" it. well help me decide! :cool:

if your planning on earning money id go for PHP, ASP or CFML(coldfusion) if your doing it purely for yourself id stick with javascript as it can be useful if you jump straight to php you will be missing a lot of important features of php which may be useful

i'd say PHP or ASP...i want to learn both.
I dont know about CFML...(doesnt seem very popular)
screw javascript...not worth it except for the basic commands.

For working as an individual/freelance/part-time go with PHP. If you're going to work for a large IT company, go with ASP.

If you have the time, go learn both

hmm i c, well actually i dont think im gonna go that big anytime soon but i know im gonna prob be making ecommerce sites such things include shopping carts, password entry and whatnot and stuff like that. so alright PHP is better good! i kinda thought i would go wit PHP over JS, i just wanted someone to say it. i plan on learning more languages, ASP will be next then after PHP , alright ive been searching around on tutorialized.com and the PHP tutorials are quite extensive, i need something that will teach me the basics, any good sites u guys know of? HTMLgoodies.com is where i started learning some HTML and most of my JS. thanx guys!

when i went out to learn php 2 years ago the webmonkey tutorials were very helpful in my opinion.

Just go to www.w3schools.com for all the basics. That site is the best for learning anything...
The only problem is... It doesn't seem to do much adnaced stuff...
Either that, or PHP is one hell of a lot easier than I thought.

Anyway. www.w3schools.com should start you off.

both asp and php are not that complicated struturaly but the important part is the logic behind it. after you have that down you can pretty much learn any language you want. after coding in both i would definatly choose php.

asp and php are the same just 1 is owned as apposed to php beingfree
