1st one, the 2nd (no offence) looks very unproffesional and as though it should be on a site for 1 of them places for kids that have been brought up around guns drugs violence etc (i know your from newcastle so its excuseable)

(im joking by the way - im from manchester so i cant really cll many areas)

I remember having a big discussion about that a couple of months ago with some scottish girls outside a club.

Ive thought of another less offensive way...its very urban (which isnt offensive at all

it just wouldnt be a good design to use for your type of site)

I'm running with 1024x768 but both the designs are too tall for my screen and too wide for my browser window.
Other than that, I agree with the "urban" comment for #2 and think #1 is more professional.

Its not coded CBG, just JPGs and I never removed the default margins so I think that would explain why it won't fit in 1024x768 at the moment.

I'm having a creative block which is seriously not good especially when I want to change my site NOW lol
